Antarctica Voyage
Falkland Islands/Malvinas Voyage (Puerto Madryn - Ushuaia) Nov. 10-19, 2007
10-day program aboard 46-passenger ship Aleksey Maryshev

Day 1: In the afternoon we embark the vessel in Puerto Madryn. After departure we have a chance to observe Southern Right Whales in the bay south of the Valdez Peninsula.           

Day 2:
At sea, we observe a multitude of  petrels, albatrosses, shearwaters and also wintering northern birds like Long-tailed Skua's.

Day 3
: On Carcass, where we will have custom clearing, we visit a colony of  Night Herons, Magellanic and Gentoo Penguins, Gentoo. It is a good area for photographing  Kelp Geese and steamer ducks, further we will see Long-Tailed Meadow lark, Rufous-chested Dotterel, Two-banded Plover, Falkland Snipe, Black and Magellanic Oystercatcher, Tussock bird and Cobbs Wren.

Day 4:
On Carcass, where we will have custom clearing, we visit a colony of  Night Herons, Magellanic and Gentoo Penguins, Gentoo. It is a good area for photographing  Kelp Geese and steamer ducks, further we will see Long-Tailed Meadow lark, Rufous-chested Dotterel, Two-banded Plover, Falkland Snipe, Black and Magellanic Oystercatcher, Tussock bird and Cobbs Wren.

Day 5:
On Steeple Jason, with its breathtaking scenery, we will visit the largest breeding colony of  Black-browed Albatrosses in the world, nesting Southern Giant Petrels, Rockhoppers and Gentoo Penguins, Striated Caracara and Falkland Skua's.

Day 6:
At Saunders island we will have good opportunities to come close to Black-browed Albatrosses, Rockhoppers, Maggellanic and Gentoo Penguins, King Penguins, Emperor Shag and Rock Cormorant, Kelp,  Upland Goose, and Ruddy Headed Goose, steamer ducks.
In a typical Falkland Island settlement we will find the remains of the Elephant Seal hunting period near a small and typical Falkland Island settlement.

Day 7:
Volunteer Point is well known for its large colony of King Penguins (about 1000 birds) and many Magellanic and Gentoo Penguins, Kelp,  Upland Goose, and Ruddy Headed Goose, and other Falkland birdlife. Southern Sea Lions are often to be seen feeding on penguins near the shore as well as  Commerson's Dolphins. In Port Stanley, the Capital of the Falklands, we  explore the little town and visit the museum. In the waters around Port Stanley there are a lot of ship wrecks from a century ago.

Day 8: Our last visit will be on Sea Lion Island where we may see many Elephant Seals with young and breeding Southern Sea Lions. Killer Whale pods are regularly observed close to the beach. Also the  Striated Caracara (Johnny Rook), Falkland Snipe, Dotterel, Two Banded Plover, the two species of Oystercatchers, the three species of geese and Tussock birds amongst others.
