Day 1: Arrive Oban

Arrive at the airport in Edinburgh and be transferred to Oban, where you will board your small ship. This evening, get to know your fellow travellers and Expedition Team during a Welcome Dinner.

Day 2: Tanera Mòr, Handa

From Oban, cruise north to Loch Broom and the Summer Isles, with the goal of landing on Tanera Mòr, the archipelago’s only inhabited island. On a guided walk, enjoy the stunning views, keeping an eye out for otters and seals as well as the island’s many birds. Stop at the post office, which produces stamps so rare that they are highly sought-after by collectors. Later, arrive at Handa and board a Zodiac to explore the sea cliffs of Torridonian sandstone that rise from the Atlantic. At times, up to 100,000 seabirds gather here, including guillemot, razorbill, puffins and great skua.

Day 3: Lerwick, Shetland Islands, Freedom of Choice

Reaching the main port of the Shetland Islands, Lerwick, perhaps visit Jarlshof, where archaeological ruins date from the Stone Age to the 17th century. Alternatively, explore Viking heritage towns on a guided walking tour.

Day 4: Bergen

Spend the day in the lovely World Heritage-listed city of Bergen in Norway, home to one of the world’s oldest symphony orchestras. Embark on a guided sightseeing tour of the old quarter, with its quaint wooden houses and cobbled streets. You will also visit the home of Norway’s most famous composer, Edvard Grieg. Following the tour, enjoy a private recital of some of Edvard Grieg’s most well-known classical masterpieces.

Day 5: Sognefjord, Naeroyfjord

Spend much of today cruising the majestic fjords of Norway. Begin by cruising over Sognefjord, the country’s largest fjord and the third longest in the world. Continue on to World Heritage-listed Naeroyfjord, a dramatic fjord lined on either side by rugged mountain peaks, tumbling waterfalls and luscious emerald valleys.

Day 6: Flåm, Undredal

Embark on one of Europe’s most scenic rail journeys along the Flåm Railway. Traverse countryside set more than 850 metres above sea-level. Then, after lunch, traverse spectacularly remote countryside on the way to Undredal, a fairytale-like village located along the beautiful Aurlandsfjorden.

Day 7: Bygstad

Absorb the stunning scenery in and around Bygstad then continue to the open-air Sunnfjord Museum, home to a number of antiquarian buildings set in an authentic cultural landscape. After stopping to explore, a particularly picturesque drive takes you to the stunning region of Norway known as ‘waterfall country’.

Day 8: Nordfjord, Olden

Sail into Nordfjord, which cuts its way inland to the mighty icefields of the Jostedal Glacier. Arrive at the village of Olden and pass beautiful lakes on the way to the spectacular Briksdal Glacier. Walk to the viewing point, where you will take in the awe-inspiring spectacle.

Day 9: Trondheim

Arrive in the city of Trondheim today, founded in 997 and the capital of Norway during the Viking Age, until 1217. Discover what is thought to be the world’s oldest open-air museum, the Norwegian Folk Museum, with its vintage buildings, stave church and Sami huts. Learn what daily life was like for Norwegian people from the 16th century through to the present day. Should you be feeling more active, you might like to embark on a guided nature walk, led by your Expedition Team’s wonderful naturalist guide.

Day 10: Torghatten, Svartisen, Freedom of Choice

Arrive by Zodiac in Torghatten, where you will choose from two different guided walks. Later this afternoon, cross the Arctic Circle, then arrive at Svartisen. After dinner this evening, set off on a walk to the view the impressive Svartisen Glacier in the midnight sun.

Day 11: Lofoten Islands, Svolvaer, Trollfjorden

Enjoy a full day to explore the pretty archipelago of Lofoten. Head to the tiny hamlet of Borg for a visit to Lofotr, a Viking museum that contains the world’s largest Viking longhouse. Rejoin the ship in Svolvaer, and be on deck as you sail through the beautiful, narrow and steep-sided Trollfjorden, enjoying the remarkable birdlife and waterfalls.

Day 12: Bleiksøya Island, Andenes

Admire the birdlife on the tiny island of Bleiksøya, containing the largest concentration of puffins in Norway with more than 80,000 pairs. Continue to Andenes, where you will visit the Northern Lights Museum and see a massive skeleton of a sperm whale at the Whale Centre.

Day 13: Disembark Ship, Tromso, Oslo

Disembark your ship and be transferred to the airport for your included flight from Tromso to Oslo. Enjoy dinner at your hotel, followed by the rest of the evening at leisure to relax or perhaps stepout and familiarise yourself with Norway’s capital.

Day 14: Oslo

Enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Oslo, passing through the city centre including the Akershus Fortress, the bustling main street Karl Johan, the Parliament Building, the Royal Palace and the Norwegian Nobel Institute. Continue to Vigeland Sculpture Park, and take a walk with your guide to view the unique collection of over 150 outdoor sculptures collected by Gustav Vigeland. The sculptures, made from various rocks and bronze between 1907 and 1942, symbolise the different stages of life. Later, arrive at the Holmenkollen Ski Jump, which presents fantastic views of the city and the fjord far below.

Day 15: Oslo, Stockholm

You’ll transfer to the airport today to board your included flight to Stockholm. Enjoy dinner at your hotel, followed by the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 16: Stockholm

Set out on a guided sightseeing tour of Stockholm, discovering the different islands linked by many bridges. Your tour begins with a visit to Södermalm (South Island) to take in the sensational views from the Fjällgatan. Then travel to Kungsholmen (King’s Island). See the City Hall, then continue to Ostermalm to visit Djurgården (Royal Game Park). This evening, enjoy a private tour of the fascinating Vasa Ship Museum. Afterwards, you’ll be treated to a wonderful dinner in the museum’s elegant Ship Hall, overlooking the exquisitely restored vessel, Vasa. Vasa sank on a voyage to Stockholm back in 1628, but was recovered and beautifully restored in 1961.

Day 17: Stockholm, Vadstena

Stop at a local restaurant for lunch on your way to Vadstena. set out on a guided tour of Vadstena, including Vadstena Castle. Built by King Gustav Vasa in 1545, the castle was originally intended to shield Stockholm from possible attacks by the Danes and the Smålanders. However, plans changed and the castle was transformed into a Renaissance palace for Duke Magnus, the King’s son. Vadstena was once the location of a Catholic monastery for monks and nuns, and your hotel is largely located in the same medieval buildings that were once the monastery. Enjoy dinner at your hotel this evening. Stay: Vadstena Kloster hotel.

Day 18: Vadstena, Copenahgen

Farewell Sweden on your way to Denmark and travel through some incredible scenery on the way.

Day 19: Copenhagen

Enjoy a city tour of Copenhagen, taking in the wonderful bridge-spanned canals, copper-roofed buildings and manicured parks. Visit the famous bronze sculpture of the Little Mermaid, commemorating the fairytale written by Hans Christian Andersen. Continue to Amalienborg Palace, the prime residence of Princess Mary’s Danish Royal Family. It comprises four identical mansions planned around an octagonal courtyard, which has formed the royal residence since 1794. Later, visit the famous Tivoli Gardens and the Glyptotek Art Museum, which houses the private collection of Carl Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg Brewery. This evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 20: Copenhagen

After Breakfast, be transferred to the airport.
